Drug intelligence / Profile preview
[18F]MM1 is a fluorine-18 labeled, hydroxynicotinamide-based positron emission tomography (PET) radioligand designed for imaging histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) in the brain. Developed by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) in collaboration with StarWise Therapeutics and the Czech Academy of Sciences, [18F]MM1 binds selectively to HDAC6, an enzyme implicated in neurodegenerative diseases through its effects on alpha-tubulin, axonal transport, and tau pathology. Although [18F]MM1 demonstrates clear, reproducible in vivo HDAC6-specific binding in rodent and primate brains, its brain penetration is limited because it acts as a substrate for major efflux transporters, such as P-glycoprotein (P-gp) and breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP).
